With a big trip to Botswana coming up, I wanted to maximise our packing space and with a drawer system already installed in the rear of the car it made sense to me to remove the rear seats and turn that space into a platform that would house our water tank and some additional ammo crates.

I mocked up a relatively simple design in a free online CAD program and then had some 8mm and 6mm birch ply cut to size which made assembling everything relatively simple. I also designed it to bolt into the existing factory holes so installing it was very simple.

I was super happy with the end result turned and it made packing for ou trip a lot easier!

Hadn't seen any of these photos until now. It's so rad to see behind the scenes knowing what the end product looked like. Hella impressive how detailed and meticulous you were at every step of the way. Honestly, I think people would pay for this kind of craftmanship!

Anti-corrosion treatment

May 23, 2024

Update image 1Update image 2

Next up I was off to Anthony Anti-Corrosion Coating to get the chassis treated to protect it from the elements and most importantly rust.

If you are in the Cape Town area definitely look them up: https://www.anthonyanticorrosion.com/

How often do you have to treat the chassis?

Only once I believe and then go for touch ups/checks once a year.

Gull wing boxes and rear table storage.

February 28, 2024

Update image 1Update image 2Update image 3

Part of the reason I got the 76 was I knew I could install gull wings with added storage.

I installed the Frontrunner gull wing windows myself and then went to Alu-Innovations to have the boxes installed.

Alu-Innovations also added a rear drop down table with added storage for me.

Very happy with the result and the extra storage space it’s given me!

Comments

Was the rear door box stock in that configuration?

No I gave the guys at Alu-Innovations the items I wanted to store in the rear door and they came up with the configuration.

Time for some new rubber

February 23, 2024

Update image 1

The tyres that came with the vehicle were fairly worn and the spare was also a different make, and with a big trip to Botswana on the cards I decided to pull the trigger on a set of BF Goodrich KO2's.

I also went up 1 size and fitted 265/75/16's which gave me a bit more ground clearance and made the speedometer more accurate. (I think...)
