Recently, somewhere in the Klein Karoo, the 80 quietly ticked over 300,000 km. No fuss, no fanfare — just another mile and another story added to the clock. Still running strong. Still wanting more adventure! Atta girl!

Barely run in right! Huge fan of an old 80, even bigger fan of Furiosa.

Accessorizing rather than modifying (yet)

April 8, 2025

Update image 1

When we bought her roughly a year ago, she came with a great base set of upgrades (suspension & lift, roof rack, compressor, tires, air lockers, overhead cargo nets) - so to date, we haven't done much in the way of major mods - its been rather about updating her look and adding accessories to fit to our use...

Upgrades so far:

  • minor engine upgrades (she's old so does need some TLC every now & then ;)
  • mud guards all round (they were missing)
  • brackets and mount for the rack (ammo boxes, jerry's, awning etc.)
  • Awning (everyone needs shade on a camp)
  • Fridge & power station (although not permanently mounted just yet)

Lots more to come as we ramp up our wilderness wandering :)

Build Purpose

We're early into our overlanding life, so we use her primarily for weekend camping missions, chasing dirt roads, and some occasional 4x4 playtime. She's our FUN vehicle - a jungle gym and 'learning-to-drive' vehicle for our 2 boys, who just can't get enough of her. Driving this truck with some good country music helps to slow life down, gives you a chance to breath in some air and to appreciate all the little moments life has offer. For anyone who doesn't have an old 4bie in their life, you 100% need to get one!
