Kroonland4x4

About this campsite
Overall Experience: 4.5/5 ⭐ The drive in—once you turn off the main road—is absolutely superb. It feels like a mini mountain pass with incredible views, which already sets the tone for the trip. Getting There A high-clearance vehicle is definitely recommended to reach the campsite. A 2x4 will manage if you stick to the main route, but I can’t comment on the 4x4 track as we didn’t try it. Facilities The campsite is well-equipped with a few thoughtful features: A gas geyser provides hot water in the ablution block (note: it’s not connected to the kitchen, so a handy tip is to collect hot water from the bathroom for washing dishes). There’s a dorm building available for hikers who want to stay overnight. A covered boma area with a large braai is perfect if the weather turns. We also had solid Vodacom signal throughout our stay. Activities & Surroundings We explored part of the hike through the kloof, but didn’t complete it as we had our dog with us. The trail can get quite rugged and involves some rock scrambling, so keep that in mind. One of the highlights is the rock pool, which is constantly refreshed with mountain water—an absolute treat on hot summer days. Value for Money A huge plus is how affordable the campsite is compared to many others. We paid R700 total for a stay from Friday to Monday (R100 per person per night), which is excellent value. Final Thoughts A beautiful, well-priced campsite with great scenery and solid facilities. Definitely worth a visit if you’re looking for a peaceful outdoor getaway.
Access Notes
Getting to the camp site requires a high clearance vehicle for sure. 2x4 vehicles will be fine if you stick to the main path. I cant speak for the 4x4 route as we didnt do it.
