Mara's goes out to one group at a time. Book it and the whole camp is yours, no sharing the fire or the bathrooms with strangers. It sits in the middle of the farm in thick woodland under tall shade trees, and it takes up to 30 people. Unfenced, like the rest of the farm. Game wanders through and the birdlife is constant. The camp is built from natural materials and disappears into the woodland rather than sitting on top of it. There is no power at the site. What there is instead: two large family bathrooms with proper flush toilets and gas geysers, so hot water does not run out. Both are built around standing trees, with rock shower floors set in concrete and pebble, latte benches and enough hooks to keep your kit off the ground. One large fireplace and braai grid in the centre of camp. The washing-up area sits off to one side among small trees and runs cold water only, but a steel bucket is supplied so you can heat water on the fire. Kibu hide is a few minutes walk above camp, a wooden deck built into a wild Syringa overlooking Zebra plain and a small waterhole. Good for morning coffee, better for sundowners. Hard braai wood and ice are sold on the farm, and wood can be delivered to the site.
