Beautiful Gonarezhou

We recently visited Gonarezhou entering via Beitbridge border post. The border was much better than we expected. None of our 4 vehicles were inspected. The process is a little intimidating but managable. At all the police check points we were simply waved by.

Shopping in Triangle and Chiredzi was a pleasure. So too filling up with fuel. The drive to the park was easy, but slow going inside. Several spots required low range for slow enough driving.

The Park itself is incredibly beautiful. All campsites are unique in their own way.

Its one of the last gems of Africa!

Nice one Reinhardt, Gonarezhou is high up on my bucket list!

Any campsite recommendations in the park?

We stayed at 10, mostly in the North. Stand outs were Bopomela (very cosy and great view), Pokwe (big stand with lots of shade), Chitove (great fishing on the river) and Runde Gorge (nice shade but small stand) for wilderness camps. Chivilila is great but no shade and on a rock, very uneven. Also enjoyed the developed camps at Chinguli (3 is the best) and Chipinda (nr 8 is the best). In the south Rossi Pools had incredible views, but Mabalauta and Malilangani also looked really nice. From North to South we stayed at Gorwe pan which is basically just wild camping. We had a hard time figuring out exactly where you are supposed to camp so just camped anywhere.

To be honest, you can stay at any one of them and have an amazing experience. We did try for as many fishing sites as we could and had some sucess with drift bait.

Maybe a tip on the cost, try a group of at least 6 people. That way you get the most of the camping fees vs the base per campsite. And you can still stay all 6 on one developed campsite.

Hi Reinhardt
We are booked for Gonarezhou next year May 2027.
We are booked on the following sites Chipinda Pools; Chinguli and Mabalauta.
Can these sites take more than one car and off-road caravan?
Kind regards
Marc

Hi Marc

Those are all developed campsites which means its maximum 6 people and 2 vehicles. Chipinda has 9 campsites. Chinguli and Mabalauta both have 5 campsites. Ask for nr 8 at Chipinda and nr 3 at Chinguli. Mabalauta are all nice.

How many people and vehicles are you in the convoy? The sites are all quite spacious.
