Travelling through Eastern Cape

I would be very careful going through the Transkei. The roads are bad and safety could be an issue.

Hi Daniel. My family and I lived in the Eastern Cape (very close to hole
In the wall) for almost four years. The N2 is is generally in good condition; other roads are either gravel or bad tar roads. There is a fair bit of livestock on the roads. We tried to avoid driving at night because of this. Overall we didn’t feel unsafe from a crime perspective on the roads and really enjoyed living there. One does have to be careful in mthatha though. (Although we often drove there and never had issues). I think you will have an amazing trip. The wildcoast area is amazing! Enjoy!
